PDP spokesman, Nwoba remain in prison despite Gov Nwifurus order

The Spokesman of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ebonyi State Chapter, Chika Nwoba is still languishing in Abakaliki Correctional Centre despite being granted bail.

DAILY POST reports that Nwobas ordeal started in February when he accused the Ebonyi State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Oguzor Offia-Nwali of embezzling the sum of N3 million meant for empowerment.

He was arrested in February following a petition by the Commissioner, Oguzor Offia-Nwali.

Oguzor Offia-Nwali alleged that Mr Nwoba had in a series of posts on Facebook defamed him, threatened his life and falsely accused him of fraud and diversion of state governments funds meant for the empowerment of petty traders in the state.

Meanwhile, after two months of being in prison, the Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru, last Sunday during a church service asked Offia-Nwali to temper justice with mercy, and consider standing down the case he has with Chika Nwoba.

This was followed by a bail application which was granted by a court in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State Capital.

However, DAILY POST gathered that despite the order by the Governor and the bail granted by the court, Nwoba is yet to be released as of the time of filing this report.
