Supreme Court Verifies Abba Yusuf's Election, Sparking Celebrations in Kano
Kano is witnessing exuberant celebrations following the Supreme Court's validation of Abba Kabir Yusuf as the legitimately elected Governor of the state. In a unanimous decision on Friday, a five-member panel of Supreme Court justices asserted that the lower court had misconstrued the significance of the alleged deduction of 165,616 ballot papers in favor of Governor Yusuf.
Justice Inyang Okoro, delivering the judgment, also emphasized that the matter regarding Governor Yusuf's membership was a pre-election issue. The announcement of the Apex court's verdict prompted thousands of supporters of Governor Abbas' party, the NNPP, to flood the main streets of the state capital in vehicles and on motorcycles. They jubilantly chanted the party's slogans in celebration of the favorable judgment.
Furthermore, some supporters were observed expressing gratitude to Allah (SWT) in mosques and open spaces, thanking Him for reinstating their mandate. Concurrently, security measures have been heightened in strategic locations across the ancient city to forestall any potential breach of peace.
