Wike Directs FCT Council Chairmen to Hold Mandatory Monthly Security Meetings
Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has issued a directive mandating the chairmen of the six area councils in the FCT to conduct mandatory monthly security meetings. The directive is aimed at enhancing and addressing security concerns in their respective areas.
Wike, the former governor of Rivers State, communicated this directive during a security town hall at Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) on Friday. He emphasized the importance of these monthly security meetings in improving the security situation within the area councils.
The minister emphasized the need for proactive security measures and accountability. He stated that he should be notified if any chairman fails to hold the mandated monthly security meeting. Wike highlighted that the absence of such meetings poses a potential threat to the security of the council.
Wike outlined his approach to ensuring accountability and collaboration among various stakeholders in addressing security challenges. He mentioned plans to convene meetings with traditional leaders, council chairmen, and security agencies. If monthly security meetings are not held, the chairman will be held responsible for any security breaches within their jurisdiction.
In stressing the importance of collective responsibility, Wike stated, "If you do your job, I do my job, traditional leaders do their job, and security agencies do their own job, we won't have problems. But if I don't do your own part, I don't do my own part, and he does not do his own part, then we are bound to have security problems."
Wike assured residents that the government would provide the necessary resources to support security agencies in performing their duties effectively. He acknowledged the challenges faced by some security agencies, including the lack of essential equipment and operational vehicles, and pledged to address these shortcomings.
