State Police: Nigerians Express Concern as Tinubu's Stance Remains Unclear Amid Escalating Killings

A recent online poll conducted by Joe Abah revealed a split opinion among Nigerians, with 45% opposing the creation of state police due to concerns about potential abuse, while 54% supported it for personal safety reasons.
Tinubu's vague position on state police has become a cause for worry, especially as the security situation in the country continues to deteriorate. The president's manifesto, the Renewed Hope Agenda, lacks a clear stance on state police, and he has not submitted an executive bill on security to the National Assembly.
In contrast, Bello El-Rufai, a lawmaker from Kaduna, has introduced the State Police Bill to amend the constitution, advocating for the establishment of State Police Forces in all 36 states. El-Rufai emphasizes that state police is the only viable means to address the current insecurity crisis.
As Nigerians grapple with the urgent need for effective security measures, the lack of a definitive stance from key political leaders raises concerns about the direction the country will take to address the pressing issue of escalating violence and killings.
