Police Neutralize Notorious Kidnap Kingpin and Gang Members in Abuja Forest Operation
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has reported a successful operation in which three notorious kidnap kingpins were neutralized in a forest within the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja. The operation, conducted in the early hours of Friday, January 26, resulted in the arrest of over 19 suspects.
According to ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force PRO, the exchange of gunfire took place around 2 am in a forest linking Abuja to Kaduna State. Among the three bandits killed was their notorious gang leader, Mai Gemu, widely known as Godara, who had been a source of terror in the FCT and neighboring states.
Adejobi stated, “We have recorded another significant stride towards fortifying the security landscape in the Federal Capital Territory following the recent launch of the Special Intervention Squad under the command of the inspector-general of police, IGP Olukayode Egbetokun."
He emphasized the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to addressing the challenges of kidnapping and banditry, rescuing victims, and restoring peace to the nation. The joint operations with the military, local vigilantes, and other security outfits have been instrumental in rescuing several kidnap victims across the country, according to Adejobi.
In addition to the operation in Abuja, Adejobi mentioned a separate successful mission in Benue State, where a kidnapper hideout in the Orokam forest was stormed. During the engagement, one of the kidnappers was fatally wounded, and an AK49 Rifle with breach NO 955860, loaded with seven rounds of ammunition, was recovered.
The police's proactive measures, including tactical deployments and joint operations, reflect ongoing efforts to address the growing concerns related to armed bandits and kidnappers across the country. The success of these operations contributes to the broader goal of enhancing national security and ensuring the safety of citizens.
