Niger Republic Initiates Border Reopening with Nigeria
Merely a week subsequent to the Nigeria Customs Service's initiation of the Illela land border reopening between Nigeria and Niger Republic, the government of the neighboring nation has reciprocated by unveiling its border in Konni for operational purposes.
According to insights provided by Nuhu Samaila, a source hailing from Konni in Niger Republic, the border was officially declared accessible at precisely 12:00 pm on Friday. Samaila lauded the decision made by the country's leadership, particularly the military junta, for attentively considering the populace's desires and ensuring the border's reopening.
Expressing satisfaction with the government's action, Samaila remarked, "It is a commendable effort, at least by the government, to have done the needful at last. It was our collective prayer that this border too should be reopened after the Nigeria side was declared open. I want to believe that this will definitely help a lot in the improvement of the economy of these two countries, as it will facilitate more trading activities between Nigeria and Niger Republic."
This development comes in the wake of the Nigerian government's restoration of electricity supply to the Republic of Niger last Wednesday, following President Bola Tinubu's directive to reopen Nigeria's land and air borders with the neighboring country.
