Eedris Abdulkareem Claims Credit for Paving the Way for Burna Boy, Wizkid, Davido, and Others
Controversial artist Eedris Abdulkareem asserts that he played a pivotal role in initiating a revolution that ultimately led to the global acclaim now enjoyed by Nigerian artists such as Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Davido.
Abdulkareem contends that his rebellion against the perceived mistreatment of Nigerian artists by show promoters in 2004, notably during a clash with American rapper 50Cent and his G-Unit members in Nigeria, is the catalyst for the international recognition that Nigerian musicians currently experience.
In a recent episode of The Honest Bunch Podcast, Abdulkareem acknowledged that his protest had repercussions on his own career. However, he views it as a meaningful sacrifice that contributed to the rise of artists like Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Davido.
Addressing Burna Boy's statement about receiving no assistance in Nigeria, Abdulkareem dismissed it as "stupid talk," emphasizing that the industry wouldn't be what it is today without the efforts and fights waged by those, including himself, who sought its improvement.
He stated, "It affected my career, but it was a beautiful sacrifice that gave birth to Davido, Burna Boy, Wizkid, and everybody today. For me, what's more important is that I have done what God asked me to do, and our music is now all over the world. I have opened the road for them. It's their responsibility to appreciate the fight. And if they don't, I don't give a dime."
