Super Falcons Secure Olympic Qualification with Victory Over Cameroon
Nigeria's Super Falcons have advanced to the final round of qualifiers for the women's football event at the 2024 Olympics after defeating Cameroon 1-0 on aggregate in the third round of qualifiers.
Following a goalless draw at the Stade de la Réunification in Douala on Friday, the Falcons managed to secure a crucial victory with an early goal from Esther Okoronkwo at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja on Monday.
The closely contested match saw Cameroon pushing forward in an attempt to equalize and win on the road, but Nigeria's goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie, made critical saves to preserve the lead.
With this win, the Super Falcons are now set to face either Tanzania or South Africa in the final round of qualifiers. Only two teams from Africa will have the opportunity to participate in the 2024 Olympics, scheduled to take place in Paris, France, from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
The Super Falcons have previously participated in the Olympics in 2000, 2004, and 2008.
